Here are some of informational points concerning College Prep QuickStart:
Spring 2017

College Prep QuickStart

College Prep QuickStart is a fast-paced three-week preparatory program designed to strengthen students’ foundational college survival skills in mathematics, college writing and research skills equipping them for success at the college level. These are the three key college survival skills that students need to have in order to function effectively and successfully at the college level. This program is appropriate for students seeking college admission.
College preparatory programs are a set of instructional offerings that contain academic classes designed to increase the college access of individuals that might not otherwise gain entry into postsecondary institutions.  Possessing the ability to research, construct and compose a college paper in an acceptable Modern Language Association (MLA) format is a foundational skill that college students need to be able to prepare papers that involve research and citation from attributable sources.

  • Provide students with preparation necessary to understand how to structure a formal and cohesive college paper through hands-on practice, handouts, PowerPoint presentations and writing tasks in a classroom setting.
  • Equip students with a foundational skill capability that is applicable and transferrable to all of their college courses.
  • Provide students with foundational arithmetic and numerical instruction that will equip them with computational skills that will help them in the classroom and increase their ability to perform successfully in a placement testing environment.

Program participants will complete Accuplacer pre and post testing for the purposes of assessing student academic preparedness for college entry. College Connections staff will provide college survival skills workshops, college admissions and financial aid applications assistance and support to the participants of the program as well.
